Demo: Support EU migrants

May plans to use the future of EU migrants in the U.K as SUTR supporters on demobargaining chips in the forthcoming Brexit negotiations. This leaves families across Britain with an uncertain future.

EU migrants play an important role across the U.K economy. The government must guarantee their right to stay now.

Stand Up To Racism is calling for people to show solidarity with EU nationals this Wednesday.

BFI African Odysseys Committee present the film – Kalushi

The NTA has received the following communication:

From: Peter Smith [mailto:peter_smith1949@btinternet.com]
Sent: 15 March 2017 20:49
To: petersmith@newhamteachers.org.uk
Subject: FW: Kalushi

Dear Sir

My name is Wale Ojo and I am responsible for the screening of KALUSHI at the British Film institute on the 6th April 2017.  I saw the film at the Film Africa festival in November last year  and was immediately struck by its potency and beauty. I immediately made  plans for the film to be featured at the premier venue for cinema in the country, namely the National Film theatre at the British Film institute. I am on a steering committee at the BFI called the AFRICAN ODYSSEYS and we are responsible for putting on films of educational content for an eager and demanding audience.

Please feel free to spread the word to all you know.  I have included a poster of the film and here is a booking link  Kalushi . Please note that booking for seats will be available from March 14th.

I look forward to seeing you on the 6th April for what promises to be a cinematic and landmark event.

Yours sincerely,

Wale Ojo

Peter Smith will attend the screening as one of the London Recruits.

School cuts briefing from NUT

Message from Kevin Courtney to Robin Wales & Quintin Peppiatt
10 March 2017 16:09

Dear Robin and Quintin,

As you know school funding is in crisis. The Government is pushing through ill-thought out plans to introduce a National Funding Formula for schools without putting in the additional funding that is desperately needed. At the same time schools are having to contend with real terms cuts to per-pupil funding, while local authorities suffer from major cuts to the Education Services Grant and other swingeing cuts to town hall budgets.

Attached to this email is important new information about the financial situation of your schools. This information is available through the COLLECT system from the Department for Education. We have permission to share this information because we are not disclosing any pupil census data.

In addition to the data showing the scale of budget cuts over the course of this Parliament, please also find attached information about the funding floor. This has not been available previously and affects 73 schools in Newham.

The best of luck with your efforts to secure additional funds for schools in Newham. If there is anything the NUT can do to support that work please let me know. I have copied in our local NUT secretary.

Yours sincerely,
Kevin Courtney
NUT General Secretary
