Pacifist, Not Passive
Annual Conference of the Peace Pledge Union
2.00-5.00pm, Saturday 3rd June 2017
Resource for London, 356 Holloway Road, London N7 6PA
The NTA met representatives of the PPU at the NUT Annual Conference. The NTA Committee subsequently agreed to support the PPU.
Message from Peace Pledge Union following the NUT Annual Conference….
It was good to meet you at the Peace Pledge Union stall at the NUT conference weekend. Welcome to the PPU Teachers’ Network!
My colleague Peter tells me that you offered to send our links to local branch members. This would be very helpful and is greatly appreciated.
As you know, schools and colleges are key areas of concern for the PPU as we work to promote peace education and to challenge militarism. There are two main ways in which we may be of help to you:
We produce a range of learning resources on peace, conflict resolution and overlooked aspects of history.
We are campaigning against the growing presence of armed forces in schools, whether through formal visits, cadet forces or “alternative provision with a military ethos”.
Our new network will be led by the needs and concerns of teachers such as yourself. Some aspects are already in place:
As of this month, there is a PPU Teachers’ Network page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PPUTeachers. This is a place where you can share your thoughts, experiences and suggestions, as often or as occasionally as you wish.
You can access many of our online learning resources at http://www.ppu.org.uk/learn/index.html.
The PPU is part of the Peace Education Network, who produce even more learning resources, particularly for primary schools. Find out more at http://peace-education.org.uk.
If you’re ready to go further, you can become a member of the PPU by taking the peace pledge and joining up at https://secure5.positive-internet.com/~janmel/support.html.
Would you like a speaker for your school, or suggestions for an event? A number of schools will be marking International Conscientious Objectors’ Day on Monday 15th May. Please let us know if we can help.
Let us know what would help you most. You can reply to this email – or call me on 020 7424 9444 – to share your thoughts and requests with me and my colleagues in the PPU office.
With thanks and best wishes,
Peace Pledge Union
