Please help the Sabbagh family to keep their home in East Jerusalem

Message from PSC:

Dear Friend,

Sheikh Jarrah

We need your help urgently to stop an eviction – please help the Sabbagh family to keep their home in East Jerusalem. Their neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah has been at the forefront of Israeli efforts to ethnically cleanse Palestinians from Jerusalem.

Join us in writing to the Foreign Office to demand Israel stops illegal settlement expansion, and to protect the right of Palestinians to live in their capital city.

Send a message to the Foreign Office
https://palestinecampaign.eaction.online/lobby/sheikh-jarrah

The Sabbagh family were originally made refugees during the Nakba (Catastrophe) in 1948. Fleeing from Israeli militias, the family was awarded a home in then Jordanian controlled East Jerusalem. In 1967 Israel illegally annexed East Jerusalem, and has since made every effort to remove the Palestinian population and cut the city off from the rest of the West Bank.

Since 2008 the Sabbagh family has been battling a settler group in court over ownership of their property. The Israeli courts have unsurprisingly ruled in favour of the illegal settlers, and 45 members of the family are now facing forced eviction from their homes.

The case of the Sabbagh family is urgent, but by no means unique. Their plight is part of a systematic process to continue the Nakba and ethnically cleanse Palestinians from their land. But you can make a difference!

International pressure – from people like you – has prevented Israel from demolishing the West Bank village of Khan al-Ahmar. This is why it is so important for you to join us in sending a clear message  to the British Foreign Office to stand up for the Palestinian residents of East Jerusalem.

In solidarity,

James Tuite
Campaigns Officer

UN Anti-Racism day 16 March

UN Anti-Racism day 16 March

Supported by TUC.

Poster for national demonstration "United Against Racism & Fascism". Poster has the title printed in yellow on a black background. The date and time are Saturday 16th March 2019 at 12 noon in central London. These details are printed in blue on black. There is a photo of woman protester.

Take to the streets on UN Anti Racism Day. There will be demonstrations on the day in London, Cardiff and Glasgow.

From Trump in the US, right across Europe and back to Bolsanaro in Brazil the racist and fascist right are on the rise. It is vital that while the likes of Steve Bannon are trying to link up the far right on an international scale, we build the links between anti-racists and anti-fascists across international borders.

The back of the poster for the demonstration. The words "One world united against racism and fascism" are printed in white on purple. There are photos from a previous SUTR event.

Challenge hostile environment data sharing

Message received from NEU:

NEU News header. New NEU header replacing old NUT header. The new header is all printed on a rectangular white block. Letters "NEU" printed in lower case white letters on sky blue irregular pentagon background. The word "news" printed in black lower case letters on a white background. The circular NEU logo printed centre, bottom.

The National Education Union (NEU) is partnering with Liberty in its campaign to stop the Department for Education passing pupil data to the Home Office, without the knowledge of pupils and parents, for immigration control.

Although the NEU’s campaign to stop nationality and country of birth data being collected from parents as part of the school census was successful, other pupil and family data is still being disclosed.

Parents provide this information to schools without being told it may be passed on. The NEU believes that this secret data sharing undermines the relationship of trust between members, pupils and families. Fear that school data may be passed on means some children are kept at home and are unable to access their internationally recognised right to education.

The NEU has signed a pledge demanding that the Government commits to a firewall – a guarantee that personal data will not be shared with the Home Office for immigration control purposes.

CARE, DON’T SHARE – add your pledge today.

Yours sincerely,

Demonstration #NoRacismNoFascism 09/12/2018 – Assemble 11am at the BBC, Portland Place

UPDATE: CHANGE IN START POINT for united counter demonstration to stop fascist Tommy Robinson:

Assemble 11am at BBC Portland Place.

https://www.facebook.com/events/323977288186837/

It is vital we come out in numbers, in unity and expose and oppose Robinson, who has a history of racism, Islamophobia and membership of the fascist British National Party. He of course founded the English Defence League and has made links with fascists and far right politicians from Geert Wilders in Holland to the Front National in France.

He claims his march, supported by racist UKIP, is about a “Brexit Betrayal”, but the reality is that he is a fascist who is looking to exploit May’s crisis to his own nasty ends – building a far right street movement here in Britain.
Whatever you think of Brexit, this demonstration is not about leave/remain, it is about uniting and coming out on the streets to oppose fascist Tommy Robinson.
The united counter demonstration is for all anti-fascists, regardless of their positions on leave/remain on Brexit, and the demonstration’s focus is opposing ‘Tommy Robinson, fascism and racism.

Assemble 11am at the BBC, Portland Place, and march to Whitehall.

Join us on Sunday 9 December
